The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) sets aside Presbyterian Heritage Sunday as an annual day to celebrate, reflect upon, and learn more about the long and rich history of the Presbyterian movement in America. It falls on the Sunday closest to May 21, the date of the opening of the first General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America in 1789.
Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church, however, observes the anniversary on the first Sunday in Feburary. We celebrate in costume and music. The pastor wears his own family clan kilt to the moring worship services. Scottish members of the congregation also dress in clan kilts, and those who are musically inclined, open the worship service by playing bagpipes while marching into the sanctuary and then performing Scottish hymns during the service.
PersAt the close of worship, the pastor invites the courageous among the congregation to taste traditional Scottish haggis during Coffee Connection.
