Once upon a time, on a local enchanted island, a board of 15 especially inspired church deacons convened to invent a Christmas magnet strong enough to draw the entire island community to the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church campus. By the end of their meeting, the deacons had resolved that the perfect attraction would look good, sound good, and taste good.
The very next day, those dutiful deacons donned their carpentry aprons to raise a stable in which to nest a breathtakingly beautiful Christmas Nativity. When they had finished their work, the deacons gave themselves high fives and proclaimed, "Lookin' good!"
At nightfall, the deacons focused a spotlight on the Nativity, creating a vignette so moving that one of the deacons gasped, "O holy night!" to which the other deacons harmonized, "The stars are brightly shining!" A couple of passersby heard the deacons and shouted, "Sounds good!" So the deacons crossed off the second prerequisite on their list, and Christmas carols became part of the attraction.
Joyful but tired—and very hungry—the deacons were about to call an end to a long day when several deacon spouses suddenly appeared with trays heaped high with steaming beverages and colorful confections. Between ravenous gulps, the gathering of deacons unanimously voted the good taste of cookies and cocoa to be the third and final element of their Christmas magnet.
So was conceived the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church Cookies, Cocoa 'n' Carols tradition. A Christmas pep rally. Music therapy for holiday mood. An uplifting community event that invites you to come as you are, tickles your taste buds, invigorates your vocal chords, stirs your soul, and encourages you to take the peaceful Spirit of Christmas with you wherever you go.
