Youth Movie Night
Friday, January 22

Senior high school members of Crosswalk and their friends will make an evening of viewing To Save a Life, a newly released PG-13 film whose rave reviews are generating buzz on campuses across America. You don't have to be under 18 to appreciate the message of this movie. The invitation to join is open to adults as well!

Movie Synopsis
Ever since Jake Taylor was a kid, he was the type of guy you couldn't help but like. For Jake, life is good. He has friends, fame, a basketball scholarship, a future, and the hottest girl in the school. Not much to be down about, right? Enter Roger Dawson. He's Jake's childhood best friend before Jake's popularity shifts into high gear. Miserable and mad over being on the outside of Jake's—or anybody's—inner circle he's tired of being pushed aside by everyone. He walks onto campus with a gun in his pocket and pain in his heart and makes a tragic move. Jake is devastated at what Roger has done. And something in Jake changes. As he seeks answers in his own life, one question plagues him: could he have saved Roger? Now he's deeply compelled to reach out to the students who are on the fringe of acceptability by the school's upper crust. But he finds that reaching out to the undesirable threatens his world. He may lose his own friends, his scholarship, his dreams, and even his reputation to do it.

What People Are Saying About To Save a Life
"I just wanted to touch base with you on To Save a Life. I watched it with my teenage son. He was very impacted by it and told me he thought every junior high and high school student should watch it. He told me that there are kids at his school that are like Roger and that this movie makes him want to reach out to those kids. It is definitely an edgy film, but I think it accurately reflects high school life. I would buy this DVD so my son could watch it with his friends. He is always searching out new ways to share Christ and because he goes to a public high school, he has plenty of opportunities. Thank you for making this film that is so relevant to today’s teens!"

Annual Congregational Dinner
Friday, January 29

On the final Friday of January each year, Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church members and friends gather to share a relaxed yet satisfying warm meal and fellowship in Parish Hall. Sometimes the dinner is restaurant catered, other times, the congregation brings and shares its own favorite dishes.

This year, a congregation favorite, Porkyland Mexican Restaurant, will supply the authentic Mexican buffet. Your insatiable appetite for south-of-the-border cuisine will find satisfaction at last in pork carnitas, grilled chicken, ranch-style beans, rice, and all the wonderfully aromatic and flavorful trimmings—fresh tortillas, onions, cilantro, guacamole, salsa, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and sour cream.

Immediately following the congregational dinner, Pastor David invites church members to the sanctuary, where he convenes the Annual Congregational Meeting.

Annual Congregational Meeting
Friday, January 29

Pastor David convenes the Annual Congregational Meeting in the sanctuary on the final Friday evening of January. Each church member attending the meeting receives a copy of the official Annual Congregational Report, which summarizes church business transacted during the period January 1 through December 31 of the previous year.

During the meeting, the church members vote on the pastor's compensation, the slate of newly nominated deacons and elders, and on the nominees to form the Nominating Committee for the current calendar year.

The one-hour meeting progresses at a brisk pace, adjourns promptly, and always provides enlightening perspective that strengthens pride in being part of the extensive Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church family. Plan to attend to congratulate the newly elected slate of deacons, elders, and Nominating Committee members.
